well, my father (and i use that term loosely) wanted to name me edward, which is his name.
my mother would have nothing to do with it (thank you, mom!).
next, ed wanted to name me after his father, whose name is james.
my mother vetoed that one as well, due to lack of originality.
they managed to agree on seamus, which is irish for james.
